Modernize FoxPro, dBASE and Clipper software with control

Even very old custom software can still support critical business processes. The key is to understand data formats, business logic, runtime dependencies and interfaces before changing or replacing FoxPro, dBASE or Clipper systems.

TECHNOLOGIES & RISKS

Understand mature solutions before changing them.

FoxPro / Visual FoxPro

DBF data, forms, reports, programs and mature VFP applications are assessed technically and functionally.

dBASE

Table structures, indexes, data quality and embedded business logic are secured and analyzed.

Clipper

DOS applications, DBF/NTX/CDX structures, printing and interfaces are assessed for continued operation or migration.

APPROACH

From technical baseline to controlled modernization

1. Secure

Capture source code, DBF files, indexes, runtime components and available documentation.

2. Understand

Reconstruct the data model, business logic, critical routines and dependencies even when original developers are no longer available.

3. Migrate

Move data towards SQL, encapsulate selected functions in .NET or stabilize the existing system as an interim step.

NEXT STEP

An old FoxPro, dBASE or Clipper application does not automatically require a complete rewrite.

I help determine the technical risk and build a realistic strategy for stabilization, data migration and incremental modernization.
